Dear sister,
Have you heard the news? President Lincoln’s emancipation proclamation has freed us slaves! He has signed an issue and I have never been happier. Finally hope for our brothers and sisters. But unfortunately with good news comes the bad news. Lee’s troops struck Gen. Joseph Hooker’s union troop in a 4 day battle. They are claiming it as Lees greatest victory. The Confederates are also suffering from losing one of their best, “Stonewall Jackson”. He died from pneumonia which is unfortunately common these days. All though his death is a loss for them Johnies, it is a major advantage for us after all Stonewall was one of their best and without him here Confederate wins will be scarce.I hope all is well at home. Fewer and fewer men do not get to write back to their families for they have not made it through battle. May god be with me that I get to see you again.
